Snowy lantern miniature painting tutorial

lantern by night
I like those pictures of lanterns by night. Ecspecially when there snow is fallen. Today I show you how to paint a snowy lantern by night. I used oils. Both mediums acrylics and oils have their own pros and cons on this painting. The pro of oils is that you can really nicely blend the light but it’s hard to paint the black stripes on the wet ground. With acrylics it’s the opposite. It is hard to get a smooth blending but if you wait some time for drying the stripes will be an easy job. The materials are: oil» Read more

Sunrise landscape miniature painting tutorial

oil painting sunrise
After all this winter and christmas paintings I have the need to paint something neutral. I like to paint landscapes with spectacular lights and I like to paint evergreen trees. They are very simple to paint. This painting I did with oil paints, but you can use acrylic paints too. This time it would be a bit easier to use oils, because of all the smooth blendings. But if you work quick and use the drybrush method or use just an acrylic retarder then it is really possible to paint it with acrlylics. As an acrylic retarder I would recommend» Read more

How I save paints

Professional paints with a high pigmentation are very expensive. There are many paints in tubes and it is always annoying when residues remain in the tube. I would like to introduce you my tool, which I use to can get every bit of paint out of my tubes. This is my beloved tube squeezer. It has two rollers like gears. You put a tube with its end between the rollers and squeeze the tool together. Then you start to turn. This will push every last residue of paint forward. But attention. Do not roll too much forward, because otherwise it» Read more
